A scholarship may be defined as a grant or payment made to support a student’s education, awarded on the basis of academic or other achievement. Therefore students are given scholarships based on their stellar performance in academics which they merited.

there are two kinds of scholarships: Private Scholarships and Government Scholarships.

1. PRIVATE SCHOLARSHIPS: These are scholarships given by Private bodies and and firms to undergraduates and post graduate students. These scholarships sometimes come in the guise of financial aids awards funded by Private Oil Companies, Schools, Banks, Foundations, Organizations and  Wealthy Individuals . These scholarships are absolutely free and persons benefitting from them need not worry about reimbursements.

2. GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS: These are still given by the Federal Government of Nigeria to help subsidize education in the country and this cuts across the primary, secondary and tertiary levels. The Federal Government through it’s Ministry of Education churns out scholarship schemes from time to time to students who have distinguished themselves in their academics. Sometimes in collaboration with Private firms, the Federal Government tries to eradicate illiteracy from those zones that are grossly inflicted with it.
